Board passes resolution in an unprecedented move

Friday, September 5, 2014, Anchorage, AK – The Alaska Support Industry Alliance’s Board of Directors has voted to endorse Dan Sullivan’s campaign for US Senate against incumbent US Senator Mark Begich.

“As a board, we believe this election and the make-up of the United States Senate are critical to resource development in Alaska,” said Board President Dave Lawer. “While the Alliance has traditionally not endorsed candidates, we have to ask ourselves, ‘are we better off today in the resource development community than we were six years ago?’ And the answer is a resounding no. In fact, we are operating in an unprecedented anti-development environment. The time for strategic decisions has come. Dan Sullivan’s efforts to fight federal overreach give us confidence that he will continue to fight for the best interests of Alaska.”

The board also considered the importance of returning the US Senate to Republican control in order to elevate Alaska’s senior US Senator to the Chair of the Energy Committee and Chair of the Interior Appropriations Subcommittee.

“Arguably, our current administration will still continue its efforts to curtail responsible resource development in Alaska, but having Senator Murkowski serving in these roles will help Alaska fight the pervasiveness of federal government overreach that we have been subject to in recent years,” Lawer continued.

The Alliance is an oil, gas and mining trade association with 500 member companies representing 30,000 employees in Alaska. Our mission is to promote responsible resource development in Alaska.
