Green Star: Recognizing environmental responsibility in Alaska

In 1990, the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce, Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation and the Alaska Center for the Environment collaborated to form Green Star. Since that time it has incorporated into a 501(c)(3) and is now an award-winning organization recognizing businesses and groups that voluntarily adhere to their high standards of environmental responsibility. Both pro-business and pro-environment, Green Star has found that businesses who become more environmentally responsible often have significant financial savings. Green Star certification is granted to businesses and organizations that meet the strict standards of environmental responsibility and have been peer-reviewed by the Green Star Standards Committee. Recertification occurs every two years. In 2008, Green Star integrated their Air Quality Award program into the full Green Star Award program resulting in ten standards that businesses and organizations must meet to receive the Award. Numerous Alliance members are Green Star Awardees. You can see a list of all awardees, board, staff, sponsors and extensive details about the program on their website...
