AIDEA Board Selects MWH for North Slope LNG Plant

Interior Energy Project to Supply Liquefied Natural Gas to Fairbanks (Anchorage) – The Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority (AIDEA) Board on Tuesday selected a group headed by MWH Americas, Inc. (MWH) as the commercial participant to develop a North Slope Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) liquefaction plant that will produce LNG for delivery to the Fairbanks North Star Borough via trucking. This North Slope liquefaction plant is part of the Interior Energy Project, introduced by Governor Sean Parnell in the 2013 legislative session to find a solution to high energy costs and poor air quality common to Interior Alaska. The selection of the MWH group, which includes NANA WorleyParsons, is the culmination of the effort that followed the Alaska State Legislature’s passage of Senate Bill 23 in April 2013. SB 23, signed into law by Governor Parnell in May, is designed to provide financing for a public-private-partnership to build the LNG plant on the North Slope. AIDEA is designated to advance the delivery of low-cost LNG through the financing package approved by the Legislature. The Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) is assessing storage, re-gasification and distribution to consumers. The target for first gas to Fairbanks is winter 2015/2016. The Interior Energy Project Commercial Participant Report is available at http://www.interiorenergyproject.com/Resources%20and%20Documents/IEP_Commercial_Report.pdf The Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority is a public corporation of the state.
