Petro Star: Alaskan-owned independent refinery

Petro Star Inc. was formed in 1984 to fill a unique role in Alaska’s petroleum market.  While other Alaska refineries were processing a wide variety of petroleum products, Petro Star’s founders recognized the need for a refinery that would process only mid-end distillates such as heating oil, diesel, and aviation fuels for Alaska’s residents and businesses.

Petro Star is the only Alaskan-owned independent refining and fuel marketing operation in the state. In addition to its two refineries, the following companies make up the Petro Star family:

  • North Pacific Fuel: A fuel distribution and service company with

facilities in Kodiak, Dutch Harbor, Valdez, and St Paul; and with additional offices in Seattle

  • Valdez Petroleum Terminal (VPT): The principal shipping point

for refined product from Petro Star’s Valdez Refinery

  • Sourdough Fuel: A fuel distribution and service company with

headquarters in Fairbanks and North Pole

  • Petro Star Lubricants: A bulk lube repackaging and service

company with facilities in Fairbanks and Anchorage Petro Star Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Arctic Slope Regional Corporation (ASRC). To learn more about Petro Star and its family of companies, visit their website at www.petrostar.com.
